Getting started with Artluni

How to get your first honest critique, what to upload, and how to read the feedback you get back.

Artluni gives you specific feedback on your paintings, drawings and photographs. This guide walks through your first critique.

Choose a piece to upload

Pick something you are working on or have just finished. A clear, evenly lit photo or scan works best. Crop out the table and the frame, and avoid glare on glossy paint.

Tell it what you want to know

You can ask a direct question, such as "Is the composition too crowded?" or "Do the colours feel balanced?". A focused question gets a focused answer. You can also choose how blunt or gentle the tone is, and how technical the language gets.

Read the critique

Each critique starts with what is working, then moves to what to try next, and ends with a short technique lesson you can practise. Where it points at a specific area of your image, look at that spot first before deciding whether you agree.

Use it as a second opinion

Treat the feedback as one informed view, not a verdict. Make a change, upload the new version and see whether the critique changes with it. Our examples show what real critiques look like, and pricing explains what happens after your free ones.
